The Krapf Gateway Center provides a welcoming experience for prospective and future students and creates a new, strong campus connection with the City of Williamsport. This new 28,000 square-foot building offers space for several critical college offices and functions, including the Office of Admissions, Office of Alumni and Advancement, the Center for Enhanced Academic Experiences, and the Center for Outdoor Leadership in Education. The building features study and seminar rooms, a multi-purpose lecture hall, three-story rock-climbing wall, collaboration and meeting spaces, office space, a café, and outdoor gathering area with a fire pit. Reese Hackman provided full mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and lighting engineering services.
The mechanical system design consists of an outdoor air cooled chiller and natural gas fired boilers. These feed chilled water and hot water coils in an indoor variable air volume (VAV) air handling unit and fan powered VAV terminal units with hot water reheat serving each zone. The lighting system design includes all LED light fixtures on a digital lighting control system. The electrical system consists of a 2,500 amp service with all life safety and partial non-life safety load backed up by a diesel generator.
